Catherine Ford is a British actress, born in Bloomsbury. After her father left her family, she was grew to maturity by her mother, godparents, and grandmother. Ford suffered from anxiety disorder caused by words as a young toddler. Ford became interested in acting during her teenage years and enrolled in the National Youth Theatre. The school she was accepted to was Sylvia Young Theatre School. After a couple of weeks, she realized Sylvia Young Theatre School was not the right place right for her. Ford then applied for a place at the Central School of Speech and Drama and was admitted on her fourth attempt. Shaun Dingwall - who later was the character Pete Tyler in Doctor Who - was one of Ford's classmates. Ford completed her degree in 1993 however, by that time she already had made her TV debut on an episode from 1991 from Surgical Spirit; she adopted the name of her professional "Catherine Tate". Tate was featured in such television shows like The Bill, Men Behaving Badly, and London Burning. In addition to her regular theatre work, Tate joined the Royal Shakespeare Company in 2000-2001. Tate was recognized for her stand-up comedy and became part of her resume in 1996.
